11 Aug 2018 - 16:43

FNA - Georgian Ambassador to Tehran Georgia underlined on Saturday his country's readiness for Iran's investment in different areas and sectors.

Chakhvashvili referred to the free trade agreement between Georgia and the EU, and said it will pave the ground for Georgia to export its products to the European states without any tariffs.

He added that the same agreement has been inked with China, and said therefore, Georgia has access to a market with an over 2bln population.

"Trade between Iran and Georgia gives Iran an opportunity to enter the two big markets and Iran can invest and manufacture products in Georgia to use the advantages of its free trade with the EU and China," Chakhvashvili said.

In relevant remarks last year, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tbilisi had called for investment by Iran's investors in that country's development projects.

"Excellent conditions existed in Georgia for investment and Iranian investors can join hands with their Georgian counterparts," Janelidze said.

The Georgian foreign minister reiterated Tbilisi talks were a major step in line with the development of bilateral relations as well as that the upcoming visit of Georgian prime minister to Tehran will offer grounds to seek venues for deepening relations in various fields.

"Various dimensions of transport cooperation were being pursued and a rail transport corridor had been defined in order to carry goods from Central Asia to Iran, Georgia and Europe," Janelidze said.

Iran’s Zarif, for his part, said frequent meetings between Iranians and Georgians were indications of progress in bilateral relations in various sectors.
