Iran deal not major issue in country: Iranian Christian MP

13 Jun 2018 - 15:15

IRNA – Today the issue is not the existence or lack of the Iran Deal and that shouldn’t disrupt the minds of people and officials, said the representative of Assyrian Christians in Majlis (Iranian Parliament) on Wednesday.

'In the present situation, the main issue of the country is to keep the unity and focus on national economic progress through boosting of production,' said Yonathan Betkolia.

He added that even the tiniest disagreements should be put aside and magnification of US withdrawal from Iran Deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) should be avoided.

'[US President Donald] Trump kept the deal for 500 days but did nothing to implement its content; therefore, his withdrawal won't be that effective.'

Referring to the Iraqi invasion of Iran (1980-88), he said during the imposed war the people of Iran fought the invaders with empty hands and free of political wings and factions.

He also said that at the time of the war, by trusting the domestic capacities and lending an ear to the Supreme Leader, Iran resisted against the sanctions and invasions. Iran can take serious steps toward development, despite sanctions.

Trump, affronting the whole world, the UNSC, and the EU, withdrew the US from the deal on May 8.
