Iran-Turkey cooperation can help tackle regional crises: Envoy

10 Jun 2018 - 9:37

Tasnim – Iranian Ambassador to Turkey Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian Fard hailed the growing relations between Tehran and Ankara in various fields and said the two neighboring countries can pave the way for the resolution of regional crises.

“Paying heed to the Palestinian issue can boost unity in the Muslim world and the roles of Iran and Turkey are important in this regard,” Taherian Fard said, addressing a ceremony in Ankara on Friday to mark the International Quds Day.

In addition to providing assistance for the Palestinian nation, Tehran and Ankara can pave the grounds for the resolution of other regional crises through closer cooperation, he added.

“Now, more than ever, it is essential for Islamic countries and free nations of the world to work together to defend the oppressed people of Palestine,” the diplomat stressed.

The remarks came as millions of fasting Iranian people from different walks of life poured into the streets on Friday to join the worldwide demonstrations in support of Palestinians, who have been suffering from Israel’s atrocities for decades.

Each year, the International Quds Day is celebrated on the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The event’s raison d'ętre is renewing support for the Palestinians and denunciation of Israel.

The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
