5 May 2018 - 10:13

MNA – Nematollah Moumvandi, Iran’s Customs deputy head of anti-drug department, said the European countries are the largest exporter of narcotic drugs to Iran, and they have not taken any action to prevent its export to the country, despite Iran’s protests.

Last year customs officers have discovered nearly 24 kg of Marijuana being smuggled more from European countries, representing a 18 percent growth compared to the previous year.

Moumvandi stressed that one of the most important missions of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), as the gateway to foreign trade, is the fight against any smuggling, including narcotics; the organization managed to seize 148 tons and 800 kilograms of narcotics last year, representing a 438 percent growth.

Known as the most commonly abused illegal substance in the world, marijuana, is a drug from the Cannabis plant which causes negative physical, psychological, and social effects for the user.

Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Yuri Fedotov announced in a meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in Vienna in March that Iran ranks first among the world states in discovering and seizing narcotics.
