Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi rejects Western allegations that Iran has sent military forces to Syria.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has not sent and will not send military forces to Syria,” Vahidi said Wednesday.
“If it were not for Iran’s well-wishing measures and peace-seeking policies aimed at strengthening the peace process in the region, countries supporting terrorists… [would have realized their goal] to start a bloodbath in Syria,” he added.
Turmoil has gripped Syria since March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of Syrian security forces, have been killed in the unrest.

The Iranian official said that those countries accusing others of meddling in Syria have turned the region into a battlefield by committing “outrageous war crimes” in Iraq and Afghanistan and supporting Israel’s atrocities in Palestine and Lebanon, adding that they have no objective but to fuel violence in the Middle East.
“The West, in particular the US, seeks to wage wars and intensify regional conflicts to boost their arms sales in order to save their crisis-hit economies.”
They want to repeat the Iraq and Afghanistan scenario in Syria and to destroy the country’s economic and industrial infrastructure in a bid to make the Arab country dependent, Vahidi noted.

He advised Western countries to stop their stubbornness, savagery and violent and terrorist acts because the patience of the people of the region has a limit.

The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants fighting in Syria are foreign nationals.
