'Transportation fleet renovation project in the country is a big step the Iranian government has taken to improve the environment,' President Rouhani said at a conference on reconditioning the transportation fleet underway in the Iranian capital.

Energy saving, pollution reduction and attention to the environment are among the priorities of transportation fleet renovation project in the country, President Rouhani added.

The Iranian government attaches great importance to the question of environment, the president said.

Deputy health minister Ali Reza Raeisi announced on Monday that the cause of deaths of 20,000 Iranians every year is attributed to air pollution.
