Yemenis target Saudi base with ballistic missile: Report

1 Feb 2018 - 16:39

Press TV- Yemeni army forces and Popular Committees have launched a locally-designed and -manufactured ballistic missile toward a military base run by the Saudi-led invading coalition in Yemen’s central province of Ma’rib, a report says.

Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network, citing an unnamed military source, reported that the Qaher M-2 ballistic missile was fired against the Om al-Rish military base on Thursday morning.

It added that the missile hit the target with “high precision.” There were, however, no immediate reports about the number of possible casualties and the extent of damage caused.

On Wednesday evening, the forces also targeted gatherings of Saudi mercenaries at the Khabb & Sha’af district in Yemen’s northern province of Jawf with the same ballistic missile, Yemen’s official SABA news agency, reported.

There was no immediate comment from Saudi officials on the missile attacks.

Since March 2015, the Saudi regime, together with a coalition of its allies, has been heavily bombarding Yemen as part of a brutal campaign against its impoverished southern neighbor. It has been attempting unsuccessfully to reinstall Yemen’s former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

The Saudi campaign has killed at least 13,600 people since its onset. Furthermore, much of the country’s infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and factories, has been reduced to rubble in the Saudi war.

Famine and outbreaks of cholera and diphtheria are other results of the Saudi-led war.

Yemeni forces’ missile attacks are part of a national retaliation campaign against the Saudi aggression.

Also on Wednesday, Yemeni snipers managed to kill a number of militiamen loyal to Hadi in different localities in the peninsular country. According to al-Masirah, sharpshooters shot dead at least four in the Nihm district of the capital, Sana’a, and slew some others in Jawf’s Sabrin district, and the Asifereh district in the southwestern province of Ta’izz.

Separately, the Yemeni army troops, backed by Houthi Ansarullah fighters, kept fighting against the invading Saudi-led coalition forces on various fronts on Wednesday. Al-Masirah reported that Yemeni soldiers managed to inflict heavy damage on the Nahoughah military outpost in Saudi Arabia’s southern region of Najran after they targeted it with mortar fire.

Saudi Arabia claims that Iran is behind Yemen's growing missile power. Is that true?
Yemeni forces also hit a number of Saudi soldiers’ camps in the vicinity of the Khazra crossing in Najran with mortar and rocket fire. Video footage, provided by al-Masirah, showed Saudi troops either injured or trying to flee.

Besides defending Yemen against the Saudi aggression, Ansarullah has also been running state affairs in the capital, Sana’a, in the absence of an effective administration.
