4 minor tremors rock SW Iran

IRNA – Four earthquakes jolted three areas in Khuzestan province, southwest Iran on Wednesday.


According to the report of seismography center affiliated to Tehran University Geophysics Institute, the first tremor measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale occurred at 03:09 hours local time (23:39 hours GMT) in Moshrageh, Ramshir and its epicenter was at 49.27 degrees longitude and 31.13 degrees latitude and in the depth of 16 km underground.

The second quake with the magnitude of 3.6 happened at 00:27 hours local time (20:57 hours GMT) in Ramhormoz and its epicenter was at 49.35 degrees longitude and 31.27 degrees latitude and in the depth of 12 km underground.

The third tremor with measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale occurred at 00:53 hours local time (21:23 hours GMT) in Guriyeh village, Shushtar and its epicenter was at 48.88 degrees longitude and 31.84 degrees latitude and in the depth of 10 km underground.

The last quake with the mgnitude of 2.8 on the Richter scale happened at 2:14 hours local time (22:44 hours GMT) in Guriyeh village and its epicenter was at 48.60 degrees longitude and 31.73 degrees latitude and in the depth of 7 km underground.

The area also jolted 40 times on Saturday the biggest of which had a magnitude of 4 on the Richter scale.
