Speaker: Iran, Russia dealt deadly blow on terrorists in Syria

IRNA – Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia have dealt a deadly blow on terrorist groups in Syria.


Speaking to Russian news agency Itar-Tass, Larijani made the remarks on the sidelines of the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Close cooperation between Iran and Russia plays significant role in improving the status in Syria and the Middle East region, he said.

The move proves that cooperation between the two countries plays significant role on regional and global developments, Larijani said.

Given recent allegations made by the US president on JCPOA, Larijani expects to confer with Russian president to closely examine it, the report said.

Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani leading a parliamentary delegation arrived in St. Petersburg, Russia to attend the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Larijani met with Russian Duma speaker and Chairwoman of the Federation Council on Friday in the presence of Iran's Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei.

Inter-Parliamentary Union is an international body, including parliaments from 154 countries and its headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland, and has been founded in 1889.

The IPU plays as a parliamentary arm for the United Nations and holds meetings twice every year.
