MNA – Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif heading a high-ranking delegation has arrived in Tehran to confer with Iranian officials on regional and international issues, including the US new strategy in Afghanistan.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has arrived in Tehran Monday morning for a one-day visit to confer with Iranian officials on political and economic relations as well as the latest international and regional developments.

National Security Advisor of Pakistan Nasser Khan Janjua, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, and Additional Secretary (United Nations and Economic Cooperation) Tasneem Aslam are accompanying the Pakistani foreign minister on this trip.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif is slated for talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and President Hassan Rouhani.

Tehran is Asif’s second destination of his regional tour aimed at holding consultations on US new strategy in Afghanistan and south of Asia.

US President Trump’s new strategy in Afghanistan prolongs the presence of American troops in the South Asian country for another four years, and also increases their number by 3,900, adding to some 11,000 US forces already there.

The Pakistani diplomatic delegation will leave Tehran in the evening for a pilgrimage trip to Mash’had, and depart for Islamabad Monday night. This is his first visit to Tehran as Pakistan’s foreign minister.

Asif had held talks with Chinese officials on US new plan in Afghanistan on Thursday and Friday. He will next visit Turkey as the third leg of his regional tour on Tuesday.
