Tasnim– An Iranian deputy foreign minister said the government fully supports a new law passed by the country’s parliament against US terrorist and adventurous measures in the region, describing it as a “wise” and “appropriate” move against Washington’s enmities towards Iran.

“I believe this law is an appropriate and wise response to the US hostilities (against Iran),” Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Iran’s lawmakers approved the details of a motion against US terror acts in the region and passed it into law in a bid to reciprocate the fresh US sanctions on Iran.

Recently, the US House of Representatives and then the Senate passed a sweeping package of bills on sanctions against Iran, Russia, and North Korea.

The US legislation would impose mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran's ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.

The senior Iranian diplomat said the anti-US law was passed as part of measures foreseen by the country’s JCPOA supervisory body to be taken in response to any potential move against Iran and the multilateral deal.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the 159-page nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.

He said the general outlines of the motion have been drafted carefully and cleverly, stressing that the Iranian government throws its weight behind the legislation.
