IRNA – A prominent Iraqi Sunni politician has asked Iran to play a major role in reconstruction of the liberated areas, left destroyed by Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, a former speaker of Iraqi parliament, made the remarks during a recent meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi.

Al-Mashhadani and Masjedi Discussed recent developments in Iraq and the region, including the start of reconstruction operation in some regions in the country left destroyed under Daesh (ISIS) occupation.

The Iraqi politician also emphasized Iran's positive role and praised contributions Teheran has made in the fight against terrorist groups.

The Iranian envoy, for his part, congratulated the Iraqi people's victory over Daesh and liberation of the city of Mosul, a former Daesh stronghold, and urged Iran's continuing support for reconstruction of the Muslim country.

Iraqi forces retook the control of Mosul in late June this year.
