Iran, Turkey stress expansion of anti-terrorism cooperation

FNA- High-ranking Iranian and Turkish officials in a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday underlined the necessity for expanding mutual cooperation in the war against terrorism, specially the ISIL, and blocking the terrorists' financial resources and networks.

The meeting was held between Iranian Deputy Interior Minister Hossein Zolfaqari and his Turkish counterpart Muhterem Ince.

During the meeting, the two sides emphasized the need for further increase in cooperation against terrorism, organized crimes outside borders, drug trafficking and illegal immigration.

They also agreed on further cooperation in exchanging intelligence to fight against the terrorist groups and drug trafficking, identifying and restraining financial resources of the terrorist groups, fighting money laundering, campaigning against terrorist group's propaganda, blocking illegal immigration, deploying sufficient numbers of forces at border checkpoints, exchanging intel on captured terrorists and fighting the ISIL and human trafficking.

In a relevant development in May, top Iranian and Turkish security officials in a meeting in Moscow discussed ways to increase mutual cooperation to provide for the common interests of both nations.

The meeting was held between Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani and Turkish Prime Minister's National Security Advisor Seifollah Haji Muftioglu on the sidelines of the 8th International Security Conference in Russia.

During the meeting, Shamkhani explained special security situation in the region, and underlined holding regular meetings between national security officials of the two states to eliminate misunderstandings, which might have negative impact on warm and historical relations between the two neighbors.

Muftioglu, for his part, expressed pleasure for holding first meeting with Shamkhani, and called for continued bilateral meetings to consider issues of mutual interest and determining mechanisms to provide common interests of both nations.
