France leading economic relations with Iran after JCPOA

18 Jul 2017 - 15:51

July 18, The Iran Project – After the July 2015 nuclear agreement, France has been leading the European countries in having relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Although many world countries were keen to have economic relations with Iran in post-sanctions era, France, under the presidency of Emmanuel Macron, has increased bilateral exchanges to 2,000% compared to sanctions time, and is now leading other European countries in having economic relations with Tehran.

The recent cooperation of French companies with Iran shows the confidence European countries have in the country despite US anti-Iran claims.

After Iran’s nuclear deal with the world powers, much of Iran-France bilateral and economic relations have been in areas such as automotive, energy, banking and airplane purchasing.

After lifting the restrictions imposed on Iran’s aviation industry following the nuclear deal, Iran took delivery of three planes purchased from the European giant aircraft maker Airbus.

In the automotive sector, Iran’s major car manufacturer Iran Khodro (IKCO) and the giant French automotive Peugeot Citroen signed an agreement in 2016 to form a joint venture to produce vehicles in Iran; France’s Renault has also begun new investments in the Islamic Republic which not only produces products of this kind, but also introduces new technologies to the country.

To Sum it up, it can be said that Emmanuel Macron’s economic policy towards Iran and President Rouhani’s motivation to expand relations with the world herald bright future for Iran-France relations.
