Iran condemns US sanctions on Cuba

20 Jun 2017 - 14:05

IRNA – Iran condemned new US sanctions against Cuba, Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday, describing the new measures as failed and ineffective policies of the US.

Resistance and resolution of the Cuban people in the past five decades has neutralized all the US policies and moves in pressuring and bullying against the country, Bahram Qasemi told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), referring to the new sanctions by the US government against the Latin American country.

Media reported on Friday that the US President Donald Trump signed an order to restore the sanctions on Cuba that his predecessor Barak Obama had lifted to open the diplomatic and economic relations with the country after five decades of hostilities.

The Islamic Republic of Iran rejects the new constraints against Cuba and strongly believes that the global experience has proved the ineffectiveness of sanctions as a leverage of pressure against sovereign nations to damage their resolution, he added.

“What is surprising is that the US statesmen have not learned the lesson of the past frequent experiences, and they insist on ignoring the independence of the sovereign countries by pursuing the useless failed wrong policies, showing the world their coercive policies more than ever,” he added.

Condemning the US move against Cuba, the official reiterated that Iran’s position is based on supporting the sovereign nations of the world, including Cuba.
