US looking for isolating Iran, Europe more engagement: EU official

22 May 2017 - 14:50

ISNA – In a reaction to US president Donald Trump’s anti-Iran remark, co-chair of European Council on Foreign Relations Carl Bildt announced that Europeans more likely to favour engagement with Iran.

“Iran voted to open up to the world, but Trump calls for isolating Iran from the world. Europeans more likely to favour engagement with Iran,” Bildt who is also the former prime minister, foreign minister and defense minister of Sweden tweeted.

“Truly farsighted policy should aim at bridging - not deepening - the dangerous divides of the Islamic world. But more important, Trump in his Riyadh speech recognizes that 95% of victims of terror are Muslims. Not heard before from him,” he added.

“Key challenge of Arab states is to open up economies and regimes for growth and legitimacy. Trump silent on this,” Carl went on to say.

“Until the Iranian regime is willing to be a partner for peace, all nations of conscious must work together to isolate Iran, deny it funding for terrorism, and pray for the day when the Iranian people have the just and righteous government they deserve,” Trump claimed in his recent anti-Iran remarks said.
