'Iran exports to EU grow in post-sanctions era'

May 14, The Iran Project – Iran’s exports to the European Union have increased by 28 percent after the implementation of the historic 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, says an Iranian official.

Speaking to a reporter on Sunday, Mir Hadi Seyedi, deputy head of Developing Export Markets of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPO) said Iran’s nuclear deal reduced trade barriers so Iran TPO could rise the value of exporting goods to the European Union up to 28% in 2016.

With the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Tehran could resume exporting to more diversified and traditional markets, Seyedi added.

Iran exports of Iron and steel flat products to EU stood at $ 66 million in 2016 as compared to $ 17 million in the last five years before Iran signing the agreement with six world powers, he noted.

The Iranian official went on to say that the second major goods are Iron and non-alloyed steel that exported to Italy with 87 percent growth comparing to the last five years.

Natural-gas condensate, light oils and products (except for gasoline), Methanol (methyl alcohol), etc. were among other exporting goods to the European Union.

According to the tables published by Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, the exporting value of these 20 products to EU was $ 294 million in 2016.

Moreover, European Climate Action and Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Canete saidat the first-ever Iran-EU Business Forum on Sustainable Energy in Tehran on April 29 that Iran’s exports to the European Union have increased by over 300 percent after the landmark nuclear deal.
