Tens of Saudi soldiers killed, wounded in Yemeni counter attacks: Report

11 May 2017 - 12:35

Press TV- The Yemeni army has reportedly fired a barrage of missiles on military positions in Saudi border areas, killing and injuring tens of Riyadh’s soldiers in the retaliatory attacks.

According to a Wednesday report by Yemen’s al-Masirah TV, the missiles hit the al-Fawaz and al-Makhrouq military bases in Najran, southwestern Saudi Arabia.

The Yemeni army’s artillery units also targeted the gatherings of Saudi forces near the al-Khadra border crossing in Najran, leaving tens of them dead or wounded.

Inside Yemen, four Saudi-backed militants died when Yemeni forces launched a ground operation in Ma’arib Province.

Yemeni troops also foiled several attacks by the militants loyal to the former pro-Saudi government, killing four of the Saudi mercenaries and inflicting heavy losses on them.

Yemen’s army, backed by Houthi Ansarullah fighters and popular forces, has been defending the country against a brutal Saudi-led military campaign, which began in March 2015 with the aim of reinstalling the former Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a close Riyadh ally.

The offensive has claimed 12,000 civilian lives, according to the latest tally by a Yemeni monitoring group.
