Iranian prisoners released after Zarif’s visit to Georgia

IRNA – Three Iranian prisoners in Georgia were freed on the order of President Giorgi Margvelashvili following Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s visit to the country in April.


In a meeting with President Margvelashvili, Zarif had called for the release of the Iranian prisoners in the country.

As the first achievement of the trip, the Georgian side started pardoning and releasing Iranian prisoners as a show of interest to promote bilateral relations and a sign of serious resolve for interaction. The three inmates were released in this connection, according to IRNA reporter in Tblisi.

In addition to meeting with Margvelashvili, Zarif during his visit to Tbilisi, conferred with Georgian parliament speaker, prime minister, foreign minister and minister of economy and sustainable development about promoting cooperation at bilateral and regional levels.
