Iran’s Police Chief: Attack on border guards will not go unanswered

28 Apr 2017 - 23:25

Tasnim– Iranian Police Commander Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari reminded the “adversaries” on Friday that a recent fatal attack on border guards at the country’s joint border with Pakistan will not go unanswered.

“Enemies of the great Iranian nation should know that such terrorist and brutal moves will not remain unanswered,” Brigadier General Ashtari said on Friday, in response to a cross-border raid from inside Pakistan that killed nine troops in a border post in Mirjaveh, at the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, on Wednesday.

The police commander then underlined that such cowardly attacks would by no means affect the morale of the Iranian border guards in their courageous efforts to protect the country.

The Wednesday attack on Iranian troops was claimed by the so-called Jaish al-Adl Takfiri terrorist group.

In initial comments, Iran’s Police said the martyrs were killed by long-range weapons fired from Pakistani soil.

Later, a survivor gave a different account of the raid, saying a number of the soldiers had been given coup de grace by the terrorists, who also kidnapped one of the guards.

On Thursday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani sent a letter to Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, calling on Islamabad to prosecute and bring to justice perpetrators of the attack.
