22 Apr 2017 - 15:10

April 22, The Iran Project – The Iranian secretary-general of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) has stressed that Iran has great potential to develop its share of gas exports in global markets, and have a leading role there.

Attending the international conference on petrochemical industry on Saturday, Mohammad-Hossein Adeli referred to the start of gas production in some South Pars phases that can play an important role on increasing Iran's share in global markets.

Speaking about the global markets, GECF Secretary General said last year, many parts of the world increased their demand for gas, like European Union that called for 6% more gas.

Adeli went on to say that given the growing importance of the environment, there will be more attention paid to the gas as a clean fuel in the future.

Now the gas is more used for power plants and domestic consumption, but in the future, it will more used in the transport sector, he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he noted that Iran has the largest gas reserves most of which is used for domestic consumption.

He also said that Iran’s share of global markets is low, saying the spike in gas consumption can affect the country's gas export capacity.
