Iran: Putin unlikely to fully trust Trump

11 Mar 2017 - 18:12

FNA- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Rahimpour underlined that Russian President Vladimir Putin will never find complete trust in his US counterpart Donald Trump.

"Putin is unlikely to trust a person like Trump," Rahimpour said on Saturday.

He agreed that Russians have pinned more hope on Trump than his predecessor Barack Obama, but he said, "We have concluded from our talks with the Russian officials that they don’t fully count on Trump."

Asked about Tehran's relations with Moscow, Rahimpour said, "As long as cooperation between Iran and Russia materializes the win-win strategy for both countries, we will cooperate with each other."

The Kremlin said in January that Putin could meet Trump before the G20 in July, noting that it's too early to talk about any possible deals with the US over sanctions on Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters at the time that Putin and Trump spoke by phone and the exchange had been a good one.

"But it's hardly possible to talk about any kind of deals over sanctions," said Peskov.

"To start with we must fix the date and time of a meeting between the two presidents. Aides are working on this now," he said, adding that a meeting could happen before a G20 summit scheduled to take place in Hamburg on July 7-8.
