No Daesh recruit in southeast Iran: Intelligence Minister

22 Feb 2017 - 18:06

Tasnim– Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi dismissed the notion that the Daesh terrorist (ISIL or ISIS) group has succeeded in recruiting some Iranian nationals in the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, Alawi dismissed claims that Daesh has recruited new members in Sistan and Balouchestan, saying “We have not had such a thing in Sistan.”

Of course, Daesh is trying to attract members everywhere, he said, adding that even in neighboring Afghanistan the Takfiri terror group is doing so but not in Iran.

In July 2016, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) stressed that there is no ground for the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group to infiltrate the country.

“There is no ground for Daesh activities in Iran. Many of the [terror] groups dismantled over the past days were counter-revolutionary groups that have failed [to reach their objectives],” IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said at the time.

He also highlighted the good level of security in Iran amid instability and insecurity in the region.
