Iran welcomes negotiation with Persian Gulf States: MP

21 Feb 2017 - 20:24

February 21, The Iran Project – An Iranian parliamentarian says the Islamic Republic has always been willing to have peaceful relations with neighboring countries, especially Persian Gulf States.

Speaking to a reporter on Tuesday, Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini of Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission stated that Iran welcomes unconditionally negotiations with Persian Gulf States, particularly Saudi Arabia.

Iran does not pursue hostile policies against the neighboring countries and believes that they can help each other  improve and bring peace and security for their nations, Hosseini stressed.

He also said that Iran tries to improve the relations but foreign interference always creates tension, adding we have never been seeking conflict with any country, including Muslim countries in the Persian Gulf.

Iran’s developing defense system aims at countering international threats and can be considered as a heavyweight for the whole region rather than a threat , the Iranian lawmaker emphasized.

Moreover, following Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Hamad Al Sabah's  visit to Tehran on January 25, seeking to fix ties with Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani last week traveled to Oman and Kuwait seeking to improve relations.

Before leaving Tehran for Muscat, Rouhani underscored that holding friendly relations with neighbors and security of Persian Gulf were principal policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
