13 Feb 2017 - 16:53

FIVB- Asia’s first snow volleyball tournament got under way in Iran on Sunday and Iranian national television (TV3) broadcast it live nationwide.
In great conditions at the Dizin International Ski Resort at 2,650 meters above sea level, 10 teams competed to secure a final spot for Monday’s second tournament day.

After the group games were finished, teams from Poland and Austria secured their spots from Group A, while the Czech Republic and Russia made it in Group B.

Current Slovenian national beach volleyball champions Danijel Pokersnik and Tadej Bozenk agreed that the standard was very good: “It was a very strong international competition and the level was very high. It was a close finish and unfortunately we didn’t make it into the finals.”

TV3 broadcast several group games live and reached out to a record-breaking audience of more than 1 million during the morning session.

In two weeks’ time, snow volleyball competition will come from the Czech Republic with a stop on the 2017 CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour.
