8 Feb 2017 - 16:13

MNA– In a meeting between Iran’s deputy FM Araghchi and Russian counterpart Ryabkov, the two sides stressed their respective countries’ commitment to the nuclear deal.Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araghichi held talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Ryabkov behind closed doors in Moscow on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Araghchi highlighted Iran’s commitment to its obligations under the JCPOA, saying Tehran looks forward to "exchange views and discuss the challenges the agreement faces today."

“Talks and consultations between the two countries since the signing of the JCPOA to its implementation and until this very moment have advanced according to schedule,” he stressed.

He went on to add, “"in the past, our dialogue was very fruitful and we hope for its similar character in the future.”

The Russian diplomat, for his part, expressed hope that his meeting with Araghchi would be productive in implementing the nuclear agreement, which he called a "stabilizing element in international relations."

The meeting between the two sides to the nuclear deal came as Washington imposed new sanctions against 25 Iranian individuals and entities on Friday under the claim that Iran’s recent missile test was in violation of the JCPOA and UN resolution. Iran has dismissed the claims, saying the country’s missile defense system is not in violation of either the nuclear deal or the UN resolution as the missiles are not capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
