Iran Air and Lufthansa announce codeshare agreement

Aviation Iran- Iran Air and Lufthansa have signed an agreement to let the Iranian national carrier to codeshare on the latter’s flights to and from Iran.

Currently, Lufthansa operates one daily flight from Frankfurt and three weekly flights from Munich to Tehran. The routes are operated by B747-400 and A330-300 respectively.

Iran Air flight number IR1600 and IR1601 will be placed on Lufthansa’s flight LH600 and LH601 on the Frankfurt – Tehran – Frankfurt route. Iran Air flight number IR1602 and IR1603 will be placed on Lufthansa’s flight LH602 and LH603 on the Munich – Tehran – Munich route.

The codeshare agreement will be effective on 18 January 2017 and the very first Lufthansa-operated flight with Iran Air codeshare will depart Frankfurt on 1 February 2017.

Since years, Iran Air and Austrian Airlines have a codeshare agreement on flights to Europe. Austrian Airlines is a member in the Lufthansa Group.

A codeshare flight is a flight where two or more airlines share the same flight and are entitled so market it as their own. In this case, Iran Air is entitled to market the Lufthansa-operated flights to and from Iran as Iran Air flights.
