Iran respecting commitments under JCPOA: US

21 Dec 2016 - 12:44

Tasnim– US State Department Spokesperson John Kirby said Iran is “taking the appropriate actions” to implement its last year’s nuclear agreement with world powers in the right way, stressing that Tehran has not exceeded the limits set in the accord on its low-enriched uranium stockpile.

“So we take all of their commitments to the JCPOA seriously, and we want them to take all their commitments seriously. The IAEA continues to report that Iran’s meeting its nuclear commitments and remains below its enriched uranium limit. We believe that they’re taking the appropriate actions to keep it – to implement that in the right way,” Kirby told reporters on Tuesday, according to the official website of US Department of State.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, in July 2015 and implemented it in January this year.

In exchange for the removal of sanctions, Iran last July committed to keeping its reserve of low-enriched uranium below 300 kg (662 pounds) and its stock of heavy water, a non-radioactive product, at less than 130 metric tons.

Hailing IAEA’s efforts to verify Iran’s compliance with the deal, Kirby said, “The director general of the agency said, during his trip to Iran just this past weekend – I’m quoting here: that we are satisfied with the implementation of the agreement and we hope that this process will continue.”

“And again, we’re going to continue to meet our commitments and expect them to meet theirs.”
