MNA– Iran’s Oscar entry ‘The Salesman’ directed by Asghar Farhadi has been nominated for the 74th Golden Globe awards in the foreign-language category.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the 74th Golden Globe nominations, which were revealed Monday morning, went to Germany's Toni Erdmann, France's Elle, Iran's The Salesman, Chile's Neruda, and another slot for France, crime-drama Divines, for the foreign-language category.

Asghar Farhadi’s Cannes award-winner drama ‘The Salesman’ which has been chosen to represent Iran at the 2017 Academy Awards, was named by the US National Board of Review as the best foreign language film of the year. It was also nominated by the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) for Best Foreign Language Film, but lost the award to French psychological thriller ‘Elle’.

If ‘The Salesman’ wins the Golden Globe award, its chances for winning the Oscar will rise tremendously.

The Iranian drama tells the story of Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti), a couple who are part-time actors playing Willy and Linda Loman in a Tehran production of Arthur Miller’s 'Death of a Salesman', when an intruder in their new home shakes this marriage to its core.

Farhadi has previously received a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for his movie A Separation.

Meanwhile, La La Land led the field with seven nominations, followed closely behind by Moonlight with 6  and Manchester by the Sea with 5 nominations, as well as Hacksaw Ridge and Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals each with 3 nominations.

The 74th Golden Globe Awards will take place Jan. 8.
