December 10, The Iran Project – Saudi Arabia’s claim that it has sentenced 15 people to death due to spying for Iran is a move to divert public opinion and create a new wave of Iranophobia in the regional countries, said Iranian Members of Parliament in reaction to the Saudi’s recent anti-Iran measure, condemning the move.


Saudi Arabia claimed that it has sentenced at least 15 people to death accused of leaking details on the Saudi military and national security to Iran.

The specialized criminal court in Riyadh sentenced 15 other suspects to prison terms ranging from six months to 25 years, and acquitted two, the Arabic-language al-Riyadh newspaper reported.

The chairman of the Iranian Parliament's Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, Alaeddin Boroujerdi said Saudis espionage charges against Iran lacks legal basis.

Having been faced with the successive failures in Yemen and poor economic situation due to their wrong decisions, Saudi officials are trying to hide their internal and regional problems by accusing Iran of spying, stressed the senior Iranian lawmaker.

Mohammad Ebrahim Rezaei, who represents the central city of Khomein at the Iranian parliament, also slammed Saudi officials for their recent anti-Iran measure, saying it was a predetermined plan they used to present other countries guilty for Saudi Arabia’s current situation and suppress internal protests.

Iran surely has no need to spy on Saudi Arabia because the Saudis are weakening due to their wrong regional policies, Rezaei added.

Also, Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi also rejected 'baseless' Saudi espionage charges against Iran, saying “Iran has had no activity against international law and diplomatic principles in Saudi Arabia, and will not."
