Iran slams PGCC-Turkey statement as insincere, paradoxical

15 Oct 2016 - 23:39

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry dismissed a communiqué released after a joint meeting of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) and Turkey, saying it is issued by the states whose interference in the other countries has fueled insecurity and terrorism in the region.

The Foreign Ministry released a statement on Saturday in reaction to the communiqué after a recent (P)GCC-Turkey ministerial meeting in Riyadh that has condemned “indiscriminate airstrikes on Syria’s Aleppo” and has rejected the “use of Iraqi territory as a safe haven for terrorist groups to carry out terror attacks including smuggling of weapons and explosives.”

Moreover, foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Turkey at a joint press conference after the ministerial meeting have urged Iran to stop what they called sectarian interference in the region.

In response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the “countries whose irresponsible intervention in the other countries has led to the spread of insecurity, war and terrorism and who have violated the territorial integrity of the neighbors” are in no position to advise the other countries.

“The appalling situation and insecurity in Syria, Yemen, Bahrain, Iraq and Libya is the result of interference by most of the countries that gathered in Riyadh, and now they see accusing the others as a remedy for their failed policies,” the statement added.

It also denounced participants in the PGCC-Turkey meeting for their one-sided reaction to the efforts for liberating Syria’s Aleppo from the terrorist groups that benefit from their support.

The statement further condemned comments about Iran’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty over the three islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb in the Persian Gulf, saying such move is a brazen interference in the internal affairs of others.

Despite the PGCC-Turkey communiqué’s call for relations with all countries on the basis of the UN Charter, Iran does not notice any sincerity in the paradoxical call and in the communiqué which contains a litany of allegations, it added.
