German FM urges removal of banking, financial obstacles on cooperation with Iran

Vienna, Oct 7, IRNA – German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that he will work for removing obstacles in the way of banking cooperation with Iran.


He made the promise in a meeting with the Head of Department of Environment (DoE) Masoumeh Ebtekar who in Germany to hold talks with German officials on various issues such as environmental cooperation.

Ebtekar wrote on her Instagram page that during the meeting, Steinmeier stressed the need for mutual cooperation and said he would consider any possibilities of participation in revival program of Hamoun International Wetland as UNESCO biosphere reserve.

She also said the German minister conveyed his warm greetings to Iran's President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and promised to make everty effort in line with removal of obstacles barring banking and financial cooperation with Iran.

Steinmeier also underlined presence of German environmental companies in Iran, she said.

'During the meeting with Steinmeier, I highlighted that mutual cooperation should pave the way for Iran's access to clean and environment-friendly technologies,' she said, noting that the country currently suffering from global warming and dust storm.

Referring to Iran's status in the region and its experience in attracting international cooperation with the UN and Japan on Urumieh Lake, Ebtekar said that she invited Germany to participate in the project.
