26 Sep 2016 - 22:30

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman condemned the assassination Sunday of prominent Jordanian writer Nahed Hattar, putting the blame on the parties that could not tolerate such “anti-Zionism and anti-Wahhabism” figure.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi blamed the killing of Hattar on those who could not tolerate the thoughts and writing of such an anti-Zionist author.

He also called for immediate action to bring to justice the perpetrators and masterminds of the assassination of Hattar.

“The spread of violence and terror is a direct result of incorrect policies and paradoxical stances adopted by international political and media groups, and of disgusting passivity in countering the intellectual and political roots of Takfirism and violence,” Qassemi added.

On Sunday, a gunman shot dead Nahed Hattar outside a court where he was facing trial. He was struck by three bullets before the unidentified assailant was arrested.

Witnesses and police said Nahed Hattar, 56, was preparing to enter the courthouse for a hearing when the lone gunman shot him at close range.

Hattar, a Christian, was arrested on August 13 after posting a caricature on his Facebook account.
