August 16, The Iran Project – Iran’s Ambassador to Baku Mohsen Pak Ayeen says Iran is ready to help resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, stressing that we are opposed to using force to change borders in the region.

Answering the question what are Iran’s suggestions to solve Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Iran’s Ambassador to Baku said we want peace and stability in the region and we will support conflict resolution in the framework of international law.

Attending the TV Channel “Space”, Pak Ayeen also expressed hope that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict be solved through dialogue and peaceful means.

Iran recognizes the territorial integrity of regional countries, including Azerbaijan, and opposes the force to change borders in the region, the envoy added.

He went on to say that the positions of Iranian president Hassan Rouhani expressed in the trilateral meeting of the presidents of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia in Baku demonstrated great relations between the two neighbors Iran and Azerbaijan.

Due to the ongoing developments in the region, the results of the trilateral meeting in Baku was a new stage in relations among the three countries, he stressed.

He also pointed out that Azerbaijan is Iran’s ally and its most trusted partner in the region, adding we have run many important projects together and will see further development of relations between the two nations.

The Karabakh region, which is located in the Azerbaijan Republic but is populated by Armenians, has been under the control of local ethnic Armenian militia and the Armenian troops since a three-year war, which claimed over 30,000 lives, ended between the two republics in 1994 through Russian mediation.

Azerbaijan and Armenia have not signed a peace deal despite a 1994 ceasefire.

Although the two countries are divided by a buffer zone, both sides frequently accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.
