Zarif honors Reporter's Day

Tehran, Aug 6, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Saturday honored the National Reporter's Day.


On August 8, 1998, Mahmoud Saremi, an Iranian reporter, working for IRNA, as the news agency's head of office in Mazari Sharif was killed together with eight Iranian diplomats by the Taliban when they occupied the Iranian consulate in Mazari Sharif.

Saremi's martyrdom anniversary (17th of the Iranian month of Mordad) is named Reporter's Day in Iran.

Zarif said that the 17th of Mordad is a day when the diplomats and media working on common tasks were tied up with the blood and martyrdom.

Today is the anniversary of martyrdom of Saremi and Reigi and his colleagues, who were diplomats at the Iranian diplomatic mission in Mazar-i-Sharif.

The foreign minister expressed hope that the cooperation between the Foreign Ministry and the Iranian media community will continue to serve foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
