Iran's top clerics denounce trial of Sheikh Qasim

July 26, The Iran Project – Iranian senior clerics have strongly condemned the trial of prominent Shia cleric, Sheikh Isa Qasim whose citizenship was revoked last month by Bahraini officials.

Reacting to stripping Sheikh Isa Qasim of citizenship and his upcoming trial, Member of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Ebrahim Amini said Islamic Republic of Iran strongly opposes Bahrain regime move.

Amini also warns the Al Khalifa regime that the trial of top Shia cleric will provoke the world against the Bahrain's rulers.

Condemning Bahrain's decision to try top Shia cleric, Hamburg Friday Prayer Imam, Ayatollah Reza Ramezani-Gilani said People of Bahrain support Sheikh Isa Qasim so his trial will accelerate the decline of the Al Khalifa regime.

He warned Al Khalifa regime that Sheikh Qasim’s trail will create serious tensions for their government.

He also urged Shia and Sunni scholars to express their positions seriously, stressing on the importance of Muslim clerics’ role in solving the problems.

Ayatollah Seyyed Mostafa Mousavi Esfahani, representative of Hamadan in the Assembly of Experts said that if anything happens to Sheikh Isa Qasim, Bahrain’s security will be endangered.

The Al Khalifa regime announced on June 20 the citizenship revocation of Sheikh Isa Qasim. The move prompted huge criticism at domestic and international levels.

Bahraini sources said yesterday that Manama will bring to trial the 79-year-old cleric on charges of “illegal fund collections, money laundering and helping terrorism” on July 27.

Iranians opposed to the Bahrain’s decision announced Friday (July 29)  as the International Day of Solidarity with the people of Bahrain.
