Tehran, July 18, IRNA – An Interior Ministry official stressed here that the the developments in Turkey and Armenia posed no threats to Iran.

The Ministry’s Deputy for Security and Law Enforcement Affairs Hossein Zolfaqari said Iran suffered no damage due to events in Turkey and Armenia.

As for the security of Iranian borders, he said Iran enjoys full security along all its borderlines.

In Turkey, certain military units made a failed coup attempt on Friday night to overthrow the government of President Recep Erdogan.

In Armenia, an armed group stormed a police station in Armenia's capital, Yerevan, on Sunday, taking hostages and calling for the release of 'political prisoners'.

One policeman was killed.

The group released a video demanding opposition leader Jirair Sefilian and a number of others be freed, and urging supporters on to the streets.

Mr Sefilian has strongly criticised President Serge Sarkisian and his handling of the conflict in the Karabakh region.
