TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri highlighted the country’s rich energy resources, saying that the Islamic Republic is capable of meeting part of Europe’s energy needs.

Speaking at a meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in Tehran on Monday, Jahangiri emphasized that Iran has great capacities in various fields, including oil, gas, petrochemicals, heavy industries and electronics.

“Given our potentials, we can meet part of Europe’s energy needs,” he said.

The Iranian vice-president went on to say that due to its geographical location, Bulgaria can play a major role in this regard.

Borissov, for his part, voiced his country’s willingness to expand bilateral relations with Iran, saying that Bulgaria and Iran are located in strategic regions of Europe and the Middle East and can act as gateways for one another’s exports to the markets of the two regions.

During the session, the two sides also exchanged views about some other issues, including the spread of terrorism in the Middle East and the world, and called for real measures to counter the phenomenon.

In the meeting, senior officials of the two countries also signed three MoUs as part of efforts to boost economic cooperation.

Borissov arrived in Iran on Monday morning and received a formal welcome at Tehran’s Sa’ad-Abad Palace.
