Tehran: Merkel’s comments on Iran missile program 'unconstructive'

9 Jul 2016 - 13:36

Tehran, July 9, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday rejected latest comments made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Iran’s missile program describing them as 'unconstructive'.

“Iran has repeatedly announced that its missile program is completely defensive and by no means designed for carrying nuclear warheads, therefore it is not violating the UN Security Council’s Resolution 2231 and is, by no means, related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said reacting to Merkel’s comments.

In an address to Germany’s Bundestag (Parliament) on July 7, Merkel claimed that Iran has violated the United Nations Security Council’s anti-missile development regulations.

“Tehran will firmly continue its missile program based on a defensive doctrine and according to its national security considerations,” foreign ministry spokesman reiterated, stressing that those comments “will have no impact on Iran’s legitimate missile program.”
