Obama said that the United States is no longer seeking to reduce Iran’s export of oil after reaching a nuclear agreement with Tehran, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States is no longer seeking to reduce Iran’s export of oil after reaching a nuclear agreement with Tehran, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, President Barack Obama said in a memorandum on Thursday.

"Consistent with US commitments specified in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the United States is no longer pursuing efforts to reduce Iran's sales of crude oil," Obama stated.

The US president noted that the United States has sufficient oil supplies from other countries, which could allow Washington to significantly reduce petroleum import from Iran.

In July, Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, including the United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom plus Germany, signed the JCPOA to ensure the peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
