Tehran, April 18, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani congratulated Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on holding recent parliamentary elections in that country successfully.


In his congratulation message on Monday, Larijani said Iran's strategy is to have cordial and extensive ties with Syrian people and government in line with regional security, peace and tranquility.

Despite psychological and political pressures and terrorists' desperate attempts to disrupt the elections, the Syrian people massively attended the recent parliamentary elections to show their strong support for President Assad, said Larijani.

With resistance, Syria will witness defeat of the terrorist and extremist groups in the country, Larijani hoped.

About nine million people in Syria had been eligible to vote. Over 5.5 million of those people attended the elections that is a 57.56 percent turnout.
