Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization appointed as WHO's adviser

Tehran, March 5, The Iran Project – Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization (IBTO) holds the responsibility to advise the World's Health Organization (WHO) in formulation of the blood safety strategy in East Mediterranean Region.

According to the reports quoted by Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization, the Iranian body takes the advisory role in providing the blood safety strategy in East Mediterranean region.

After Iran's accomplishment in offering the national blood safety strategy and the visit by Dr. Abdollah, the WHO's regional envoy to Iran, the country's Blood Transfusion Organization was invited to take greater role in providing this strategy in the region. The Iranian body representatives' were further asked to take part in the regional advisory sessions about offering the safe blood during disasters.

Earlier, WHO's envoy in the region had introduced Iran as the best potential hosting country to hold the ceremony of World Blood Donor Day in the region in 2018.

It is worth mentioning that 2020 was announced by the WHO as the target year for all countries to obtain 100% of blood supplies from voluntary unpaid donors, this is while according to Dr. Pourfathollah, IBTO Managing Director, Iran reached 100% Voluntary Blood Donation, 13 years ahead of WHO deadline.
