25 Feb 2016 - 14:27

Geneva, Feb 24, IRNA – Swiss President Johann Schneider is scheduled to visit Iran on Friday aiming to expand Tehran-Bern relations in economic and political fields.

Schneider would lead a big economic and scientific delegation to Iran.

The visit is made upon the official invitation extended to Schneider by his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

During his three-day visit, the Swiss president is due to meet with his Iranian counterpart and several other ministers.

Yesterday Swiss presidential office said in a statement that, Schneider will review issues such as human rights, justice, regional security and immigration as well as education, research and innovation.

The statement said that promotion of economic relations, inaugurating financial systems to ease mutual economic affairs and talks with Iranian senior officials in the context of joining the World Trade Organization and cooperation with the international organizations are on the agenda.

The Swiss President will deliver a lecture to the students and the board of instructors of Tehran University on economic and political issues.

Meanwhile, a 40-member delegation, comprising presidents of major Swiss companies, will accompany the president to Iran.

Iran-Switzerland relations goes back to 17th century.

The post-JCPOA era has prepared the ground for promotion of mutual economic relations.

In April, a senior Swiss economic delegation, led by former Swiss ambassador to Tehran, Livia Leu, traveled to Iran for exploratory talks.

She said that Switzerland held a good position in its relations with Iran and could compete with other countries in this regard.

The visit was made prior to the finalization of Iran’s nuclear agreement.
