8 Feb 2016 - 17:37

Prosecutors in Saudi Arabia have put 27 people on trial for gathering intelligence for Tehran, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The security department of the Saudi Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution has brought several charges against the accused, who are mostly Saudi citizens, the Saudi Makkah daily newspaper said Sunday.

The detainees were arrested in March 2013 in Riyadh and several other Saudi cities for collecting data on vital strategic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
At least 21 of the alleged spies have already confessed to the crimes, according to the newspaper.
