Official: US Congressmen visa request serves political purposes

7 Feb 2016 - 16:55

Tehran, Feb 7, IRNA – Foreign Ministry Deputy for Euro-American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi said the visa request by three members of the US Congress served political purposes.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA on Sunday, he said the request is an attempt by the US politicians to create propaganda ballyhoo.

He said the issue was of no real significance as it served political purposes.

He said the Congressmen were in fact seeking to create propaganda ballyhoo.

He stated that Iran will allow no individual or country to interfere in its domestic Affairs.

According to Tasnim news agency, three members of the US Congress paid a visit to the Iranian Interest Section in Washington, D.C., and officially asked for visas to take a trip to Tehran.

Since Iran doesn’t have diplomatic relations with the US, it maintains an office in the Pakistani Embassy in Washington to conduct any official international business that might be needed.

Rep. Mike Pompeo, Kansas, Rep. Lee Zeldin, N.Y, and Rep. Frank LoBiondo, New Jersey visited Iran’s Interest Section in the embassy of Pakistan in the US capital.

They sit on three important congressional committees: Armed Services, Intelligence, and Foreign Affairs.

The three congressmen’s visit, they said, is aimed at investigating what’s happening now that the US and Iran have entered into a nuclear deal, the news agency said.
