1 Feb 2016 - 12:31

Tehran, Feb 1, IRNA – Parliament (Majlis) presiding board praised Navy commanders of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) for seizing US sailors.

The parliament presiding board presented bunches a flowers to the IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi and other forces who had a role in seizing the US sailors.

Fadavi briefed the lawmakers with a report on the operation which resulted seizure of the two US navy boats who had illegally entered into Iranian waters.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday awarded medals to navy commanders for capturing US sailors who entered Iranian territorial waters this month.

Ayatollah Khamenei awarded the Fath (Victory) medal to the head of the Navy of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps and four commanders involved in the seizure of two US Navy boats.

Iran has awarded the Fath medal since 1989 to war heroes, military commanders and politicians, especially those linked to the eight-year war by the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein on the Islamic Republic in the 1980s.

Iran freed the ten US sailors on Jan. 13, a day after detaining them aboard the two US Navy patrol boats in the Persian Gulf. The IRGC said it had determined the patrol boats had entered Iranian territorial waters by mistake.
