WASHINGTON (AP) — A senior U.S. official says the plane carrying Americans who had been imprisoned by Iran has left Tehran.

The Obama administration official isn't saying whether all four Americans were on the plane, just that those "who wished to depart Iran have left."

The publisher of The Washington Post is confirming that reporter Jason Rezaian (reh-ZY'-ahn) has "safely left the country" with his wife after a "545-day nightmare.

The U.S. official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the developments
