Netanyahu: Iran unlikely to abandon nuclear ambitions after signing JCPOA

17 Jan 2016 - 13:08

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Tehran has not abandoned its aim to obtain nuclear weapons even after signing an agreement on its nuclear program.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Tehran has not abandoned its aim to obtain nuclear weapons even after signing an agreement on its nuclear program, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday.
"Even after signing the nuclear deal, Iran has not relinquished its ambition to obtain nuclear weapons, and continues to act to destabilize the Middle East and spread terror throughout the world while violating its international commitments," Netanyahu said, as quoted by Israel National News broadcaster.

He added that the international community should monitor Tehran's activities to ensure Iran would not develop nuclear weapons.

On Saturday, International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed Iran's compliance with the agreement on country's nuclear program and implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed by Iran and a group of world powers, came into effect.

On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 group of countries comprising the United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom plus Germany, signed the JCPOA. The agreement guarantees the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
