Iran stresses regional cooperation against extremism

Tehran, Dec 22, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian called for increasing Iran-Oman as well as regional countries' security ties in order to fight terrorism and extremism.


He made the statements in the Fourth Iran-Oman Strategic Committee held on Tuesday during which he termed as excellent the Tehran-Muscat relations.
Expressing satisfaction over Oman's realistic, balanced, and logical positions and its positive influence on the regional stability and security, he said bilateral ties can increase in the field of trade and economy through implementation of the nuclear Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
'Considering Oman's special status in Iran's foreign policy, we have no limitation in expansion of relations with the Sultanate of Oman,' said Amir-Abdollahian.
Omani Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ahmed Al-Isaei welcomed regular convention of joint commissions between Iran and Oman and said both countries are determined to promote their ties.
'Oman has a special regard for Iran and believes that Tehran's important regional role is undeniable. Therefore, we have put enhanced bilateral cooperation on our agenda,' he added.
The Omani official also supported increased cooperation among regional countries to counter the insecurity arising from terrorist acts.
