Rouhani: Tehran, Seoul need to accelerate broadening of bilateral ties

21 Dec 2015 - 17:49

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with South Korean Ambassador to Tehran Kim Sung-ho on Monday called for boosting mutual cooperation between the two countries under the atmosphere prevailing after the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the world powers in Vienna on July 14.

"There are no obstacles to the further expansion of Tehran-Seoul relations and the two countries should make use of the post-agreement atmosphere and accelerate expansion of cooperation," President Rouhani said.

The Iranian president reiterated that the governmental and private companies of South Korea can invest in different sectors of Iran, including oil, gas, petrochemical industries, mining and auto industry.

The South Korean envoy, for his part, pointed to Iran-Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, France and Britain plus Germany) agreement, and expressed the hope that the mutual cooperation between Seoul and Tehran would increase after the July agreement in Vienna.

Last July, after Iran reached a deal with the five permanent United Nations Security Council members plus Germany, South Korea announced that it will actively support local companies' inroads into the Iranian market after a landmark agreement was reached over the country's nuclear program.

Seoul said that it will also seek to sign shipping-related agreements, expand bilateral customs cooperation for increased trade, and help small and medium enterprises forge ties with their Iranian counterparts.
